The Water
The water you’ll fish
Ian’s beat is the Pitnacree & Balnabeggan water on the upper River
Tay, below Grandtully in Perthshire — a stretch of named pools, streams and glides, fished on
both banks, where spring fish rest on their run towards Loch Tay. The Tay carries more water than
any river in Britain and holds the longest salmon season in Scotland, from mid-January to
mid-October.
It sits close enough for a long weekend and remote enough to have the water to yourself. You are
fishing private water with a guide who knows every lie on it, not a crowded association beat.
